Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) Watch is an Irish Wildlife Trust training course which provides information and conservation training to potential SAC site monitors about Special Areas of Conservation in their locale and nationally. It is hoped that this project will foster a sense of understanding, pride and ownership over nature conservation sites amongst the community. This year the course will be focused in counties Galway and Roscommon.

The course involves 10 workshops with fieldtrips held on Saturdays between June and October. The workshops run from 11am – 1pm followed by fieldtrips from 2pm – 4pm.  The first workshop is especially important, as it will contain an introduction to Special Areas of Conservation (history, policy and administration) and guidelines on becoming a site monitor. This will be followed by fieldtrips led by experts who will instruct participants at each site developing their skills in ecology & conservation fieldwork, which will assist participants in becoming a site monitor.
All details of the training course will be emailed to registered participants. The registration fee is €55 or just €20 for members of the Irish Wildlife Trust.
