About the Irish Wildlife Trust

The Irish Wildlife Trust (IWT) is a non-governmental organisation and charity founded in 1979. The IWT works to create a better future for Ireland’s biodiversity by motivating and supporting people to take action to protect nature. We achieve this through wildlife events, citizen science projects, community education, practical conservation activities, and nature campaigning. We have a small motivated staff team and a growing network of local branches and volunteers who together deliver our work programme.

Key Responsibilities of the Post

The Finance and Compliance Officer will report to the General Manager. They will be responsible for managing the financial data and payments process across our organisation, including supporting our local branches with online banking and financial record keeping. The Finance and Compliance Officer will be responsible for improving our financial reporting process and will support the General Manager in maintaining compliance with the Charities Regulator and Companies Registration Office.

The Finance and Compliance Officer will carry out the following duties;

Payments & Financial Data Management

  • Schedule, process and record financial payments.
  • Maintain financial records for the organisation.
  • Support online banking & financial record keeping for local branches.

 

Reporting & Financial Control

  • Utilise SortMyBooks accounting software to extract, analyse, and maintain financial data.
  • Prepare financial reports on a regular basis.
  • Support the annual audit of the charity.
  • Support the transition to SORP accounting methodology.

Compliance

  • Coordinate IWT reporting to the Company Registration Office.
  • Support the IWT compliance with the Charity Regulator Governance Code.

Other

  • Prepare project costing & budgeting for grant applications.
  • Maintain records of grant applications, deadlines, and payments.
  • Other financial administration tasks that may arise.

Skills, Experience & Attributes

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience for this role;

Essential:
Demonstrable experience working in financial administration for a minimum of 3 years.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree level qualification in a relevant field, such as Business Administration or Nonprofit Management.
Demonstrable experience using accounting software.
Demonstrable experience working with data and spreadsheets.
Proficiency working across software platforms e.g. video meetings & scheduling software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Enjoy working as part of a small dedicated team.
A passion for wildlife conservation and nature advocacy.

Desirable:
Experience using SortMyBooks accounting software.
Experience in financial administration for a nonprofit organisation(s).
Experience reporting to the Companies Registration Office.
Experience reporting to the Charity Regulator.
Familiarity with Charities SORP accounting method.

Salary & Conditions of Employment

This role can be part time or full time depending on the candidates requirements, with a minimum of 3 days per week. The salary for this role is €35,000 to 38,000 per year depending on experience. Salary will be pro rata based part time or full time position.

The successful candidate is required to be resident in Ireland and eligible to work in the Republic of Ireland.

This role allows for remote working in so far as is practicable, however the post-holder will be expected to attend in-person meetings at our Dublin office as required. Desk space can be provided to the post-holder in our office. The IWT office is located in the bustling neighbourhood of Phibsborough in Dublin City. It is one minute from the LUAS Green line and close to Dublin City Centre.
